My Personal Story Behind Starting Triple H Mixtapes
The title Dj XDC stands for X-Dark Child and is the avenue through which I make mixtapes to put out to use as evangelistic tools and have put out mixtapes that have been listened to over 150,000 people. I started making mixtapes to help kids off the streets of Deep Valley Oceanside switch from hardcore secular hip hop to positive gospel rap, while bringing them to church on the church bus and saw a passion and need for positive music that effects kids from the streets for positive social change.
The reason I started compiling mixtapes is the same reason I first started making mixtapes for kids off the streets to help them transition to “church” music being that it was a little wierd at first and took some adjustment, some of the kids would rather sneak out into the parking lot to smoke weed then worship so I started making Christian Rap mixtapes and putting down some lanolium and letting them break dance and get into Christian rap so we could transition then into guitar / piano based worship a style of music totally foriegn to them and me for that fact, when I got saved it was a shock, to be listening to a rock bad lead worship I hated rock, so getting into worship was a major adjustment.
So really the whole reason is to provide ministry transition resources from secular music to Christian music. So that those who aren’t saved can start putting down the nasty secular music and start getting into godly Christian music. Do you feel what I’m saying. Its just bait to get them comfortable with the Church, the language of the bible and hopefully get them in a Church they can get discipled it. Its a first step for some, a small step or a big step depending on the person but if I can provide a bridge from the world to the Church for some who have a hard time with “churchy’anity” then I want to help them get past that and into Jesus and the Bible so they can get saved and find a bible based community of believers to be accountable to, get discipled in, have their needs meet and find ways to give back what was given to them freely.
That is why this features links to free downloadable mixtapes that you can download burn and pass out. For those with a small youth budget or no youth budget, or those who have friends they don’t want stuck on secular music but want to give them a positive alternative.
There are paid mixtape sites out there like www.christianmixtapes.com maybe the quality is better, I don’t think they have as many mixtapes but I’m sure they, or hope they have better quality since they are a paid site, download sites like 3hmp3, sphere of hip hop has some downloads of albums and some free mp3′s, spheres of hip hop and the bus shop have physical cds, those are how I get album.
I’m not much of a store person because well the selection and section for Christian Rap very from non existance from having their own rap section to “alternative music” or whatever title and it gets lumped in with rock music, which makes me laugh. So I avoid / boycott stores since they don’t really support Christian Rap like they should or could. Online and digital is the way of the future anyways.
But yeah, the mixtapes here are free to download, burn and pass out to get people into and hooked on Jesus music and hopefully go out and buy the albums and support the artist, once they get in the door and really want more than a mixtape track or free download.
There is only so much you get with a mixtape. They are not the same quality as real albums the beats are usually other peoples beats with remixes or freestyles. If you want original beats and content buy the albums. This isn’t an end all get you’re mixtapes and thats it.
You are better of with original content from albums but in the meantime for those who can’t afford it and want some music to listen to here is some good Christian Rap to help get you to the place you want to go buy these guys albums and pass out mixtapes to those who need to get in the door.
A Christian mixtape for a friend could be a more personal and beneficial “tract” than a piece of paper and words if the music is good and speaks to them.
To be honest the content and the quality of all the mixtapes isn’t always the best, there are only a few I download by recognizable artist or new artist that I like there sound. I make all available for all so that everyone can get a taste for what they like because I may not like something doesn’t mean someone else doesn’t or maybe it can inspire someone to try there hand are a mixtape, rapping or putting out the own music.
So I don’t discriminate on the mixtape side, if they are gospel rap. If I was offering albums for purchase, quality, content and packaging would be a major consideration and lack of quality, good Goldy content and not so good packaging would get albums rejected because I believe when doing ministry, especially for a “paid” for album you should do it with all the excellence you can. Take you time, wait til you have the money to do it right. Don’t just do it to do it. Put everything into to present the gospel the best you can with the beats, lyrics, production, mixing and mastering is the most important for all albums, and the package has to say “taste and see” the Lord is good. Not um… whats that? Feel me
